HDPE (high-density polyethylene)

High-density polyethylene is a stiff, tough polyolefin with good chemical and moisture resistance. Converters choose HDPE grades by process: blow moulding, injection moulding, film extrusion or pipe.

  • Chemical namePolyethylene, high density
  • CAS No.9002-88-4
  • Density (typical)0.941 – 0.965 g/cm³
  • Melt flow indexFrom fractional (film, pipe) to 20+ g/10 min (injection), grade-dependent

Applications

  • Bottles, jerrycans and containers (blow moulding)
  • Crates, caps and closures, household goods (injection moulding)
  • Carrier bags and thin, strong films (HMW film)
  • Pipe, conduit and sheet (extrusion)

How the grade is selected

  • Process: blow, injection, film or extrusion
  • Density and melt flow index for the machine and the part
  • Additives: UV, antistatic, slip, colour
  • Food-contact or regulatory statements, if the application needs them

Documents with an offer

  • TDSTechnical data sheet for the offered grade, when available
  • SDSSafety data sheet applicable to the supplied product
  • COACertificate of analysis or relevant lot documentation, when supplied

Frequently asked questions

How is an HDPE grade selected?

Start from the process and the end product. Blow-moulding grades usually have a low melt flow index and high stiffness. Injection grades flow more easily. Film grades balance strength and processability. Send us the process and your current grade, and we compare suitable supply.

What is the difference between HDPE and LDPE?

HDPE has fewer branches in its polymer chains. That gives higher density, stiffness and chemical resistance. LDPE is softer and clearer and is used mostly for film.

Can you quote against my current grade?

Yes. Send the grade name or its TDS. The offer names the exact manufacturer, grade and origin, so you can compare it line by line.
