Masterbatch & compounds

Masterbatch is a concentrate of pigment, filler or additive in a carrier resin. It is let down into the main polymer at a few percent to colour it or change its properties. The carrier must match the base resin and the process.

  • TypesWhite, black, colour, filler and additive masterbatch
  • Carrier resinLDPE, LLDPE, HDPE, PP or universal, matched to the base polymer
  • Typical loadingWhite (TiO₂) about 50 – 75 % · black (carbon black) about 30 – 50 % · filler (CaCO₃) about 70 – 80 %
  • Typical dosageAbout 1 – 5 % for colour; higher for filler

Frequently asked questions

How is masterbatch dosed?

It is mixed with the base resin at the hopper, usually by a gravimetric or volumetric doser. Colour masterbatch is often dosed at 1 – 5 %. Filler masterbatch can be much higher, depending on the product.

Can you match a colour?

Send a physical sample or a colour reference and the base resin. Colour matching is done by the producer, and we confirm feasibility before quoting.

What is filler masterbatch used for?

Calcium carbonate filler masterbatch is used in film, raffia and moulded goods to reduce cost and adjust stiffness and opacity.
